A Poem? If I Knew Then

Leftovers and afterthoughts

Are all we tend to give

Burnt offerings’ ashes

From the bottom of the bin

If I knew then

What I know now

How rich,

Or, how poor

What would I have been

Or, what would I have become

If I knew then

What I know now

Does God deserve first offering?

My gift is last and suffering

Does he deserve an honest mind?

Not lies we use to hide behind

The last becomes first

Our first becomes worst

The day becomes night

The desire becomes thirst

If only I knew then

What I should know now

The first of my love

Would have been the best

…of the amount
